Car Makers' Employer Body Says Awards VitalA key Australian employer body, the Automobile Chamber of Commerce, has appealed to the Howard Government to keep federal awards. They say a level playing field makes sure employers in its industry don't undercut each other on wages, leading to an undermining of the industry and a downward wages spiral. The ACCC' Manager of Industrial and Employee Relations, Leyla Yilmaz, has said to the Senate Inquiry into the Work Choices legislation, that its members relied on awards to provide an industry floor. She said the VACC would be making strong submissions to the award review taskforce, as it was "imperative" that its awards and their classification structures were maintained to ensure a level playing field.
